ORDINANCE NUMBER 92-278 <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 320 ( ZONING) OF THE CITY OF HUGO' S MUNICIPAL <br /> CODE AS IT RELATES TO PERMITTED SIZES OF PRIVATE GARAGES <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Hugo has been receiving an increasing number of <br /> variance requests for the construction of private garages exceeding the <br /> 720 sq . ft. currently permitted under the City ' s Zoning Ordinance; and <br /> WHEREAS, the demand for larger garages is caused by the public' s need <br /> to store boats, motor homes, and other items; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to avoid exterior <br /> storage of such items, avoid construction of additional accessory <br /> buildings in residential districts, and to provide for the uniform <br /> development of homesteads through planning for necessary storage at the <br /> time of home construction or improvement, while avoiding the City ' s <br /> residential neighborhoods taking on a commercial appearance; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUGO, WASHINGTON COUNTY, <br /> MINNESOTA, HEREBY ORDAINS: <br /> Subd . 1 . A private garage of up to 1000 square feet is permitted as an <br /> accessory structure, whether attached or unattached , in any zoning <br /> district of the City permitting residential development by ordinance, <br /> variance, special use, or other means, under the following conditions: <br /> a . A private garage may not exceed in square footage or height the <br /> principal dwelling it supports. <br /> b. A private garage may not occupy over seven percent (7%) of the <br /> gross area, including easements, of the lot or parcel on which it is <br /> constructed . <br /> c . A private garage may not occupy over forty percent (40%) of the <br /> lot or parcel ' s public street frontage as measured at the front street <br /> setback line. <br /> Subd . 2. Except as amended herein , Chapter 320 shall remain in full force <br /> and affect . <br /> Subd . 3.
