hold up the property. The EDA stated they would like staff to continue working with the
development to come up with an agreement that would be beneficial to both parties.
UPDATE ON BR&E PROGRAM COMMENCEMENT CELEBRATION
The BR&E Commencement celebration was held at the Hugo American Legion on April 7, 2010.
Staff presented the background of the program, the survey results, and the implementation
projects. Approximately 50 people attended the celebration. Staff presented the survey results to
the EDA and discussed the implementation projects, stating that they are all available online.
Enclosed were the BR&E summary report, survey results, and the 2010 goals for the EDA.
One of the implementation projects is marketing of the City and businesses. The marketing group
met to start creating a marketing plan and made a recommendation to the EDA to create a new
logo, slogan, and residents guide for the City. The EDA liked the idea of bringing marketing to
the next step, but wanted to see the marketing plan before making any decisions on the logo. The
EDA generally agreed with the group on a slogan and residents guide for the City.
DISCUSSION ON COMMERCIAL DESIGN GUIDELINES
Staff discussed with the EDA commercial design guidelines. The comprehensive plan
discourages "big box" commercial buildings. The implementation portion of the plan states that
the City should adopt an ordinance to limit building size in order to be consistent with the comp
plan. The ordinance review committee (ORC) thought that large commercial buildings may be
alright as long as they're designed correctly and instead of having an ordinance to limit building
size, the same intent can be achieved with design guidelines. The EDA agreed with the ORC and
stated that they would like staff to start working on design guidelines for the EDA's review.
ADJOURNMENT
Klein made a motion, seconded by Granger, to adjourn at 10:50 am.
All Aye. Motion Carried.
