•r
9,pq AU OO
ELIC Sc,
Stillwater BOLD
Building Opportunities to Lear► and Discover
Right -Suing Our SUhools Fact Sheet
District leaders are recommending a plan to right -size our elementary schools in order
to better meet the learning needs of all students. With elementary building capacity
in our central and northern schools expected to decrease in the coming years, the
proposal would close three elementary schools —Marine, Oak Park and Withrow -
beginning in 2017-2018.
Consolidate three elementary schools north of Highway 36 — Marine, Oak Park and
Withrow- with other schools to create seven right -sized elementary schools.
Rightsizing ensures all of our students have the same learning experience
no matter where they live and would create a more sustainable future.
Right -sizing would allow us to invest in learning across all levels, elementary,
middle and high school, rather than spend money to operate under-utilized
buildings.
The board will vote on the recommendation on Feb. 11, 2016.
If approved, the change would happen for the start of the 2017-2018 school year.
This would give families and staff nearly a year and a half to transition to a npw
school community.
Making BOLD decisions to right -size schools means ALL students will get:
• More equitable learning experiences
• Improved access to support services
• A student -centered middle school experience
Support for ninth graders transitioning to high school
• Improved access to technology support
• More balanced class sizes across the district
• Long-term stability for staffing, operations and LEARNING
Watch the Dec. 17 presentation to the school board to learn more about the
Presented to Board 72/77/2075
