Hugo should consult the <br />complete 2040 Regional Parks Policy Plan in preparing its local comprehensive plan. In addition, Hugo <br />should consult Thrive MSP 2040 and the current version of the Metropolitan Council's Local Planning <br />Handbook for specific information needed in its comprehensive plan. <br />System Plan Considerations Affecting Your Community <br />Regional Parks System Components in your community <br />The following Regional Parks System Components within Hugo as identified in the 2040 Regional <br />Parks Policy Plan are listed below. <br />Regional Trails <br />Hardwood Creek Regional Trail: This is an existing regional trail that is open to the public. The <br />regional trail travels through Hugo and Forest Lake as it connects the Bruce Vento Regional Trail, <br />Glacial Hills Regional Trail Search Corridor and Sunrise Prairie Trail in Chisago County. The regional <br />trail alignment as shown in Figure 2 should be acknowledged in the comprehensive plan. <br />Glacial Hills Regional Trail Search Corridor: The regional trail search corridor travels through Hugo, <br />May Township, and Marine on St. Croix as it connects Hardwood Creek Regional Trail, Big Marine Park <br />Reserve, and William O'Brien State Park. Washington County will lead a planning process in the future <br />to determine the alignment of the regional trail. When preparing its comprehensive plan, Hugo should <br />verify whether a master plan has been approved by the Metropolitan Council. If a master plan has been <br />approved, the planned regional trail alignment should be acknowledged in the comprehensive plan. <br />Otherwise, the general search corridor as shown in Figure 2 should be acknowledged in the <br />comprehensive plan. <br />Please contact Washington County for more information regarding Regional Parks System <br />Components in Hugo. <br />State lands in your community <br />State park and open space units that provide outdoor recreation opportunities and natural resource <br />conservation for the public complement the Regional Parks System and are recognized in the 2040 <br />Regional Parks Policy Plan.
