This ordinance
mainly pertains to dogs
within the City. There are
several major changes that
residents should be aware
of.
First, the City of Hugo no
longer requires dog li-
censes. This will save resi-
dents time and money,
however, it is still required
for your dog to wear identi-
fication and have proper
vaccinations.
The second major change is
that "potentially dangerous
dogs" are now allowed in
the City of Hugo.
"Dangerous Dogs," by defi-
nition, are still prohibited.
Before this change, if a
resident's dog had an inci-
dent with another dog or a
person, and was deemed
potentially dangerous, it
would not be allowed to
remain in the City of
Hugo. Potential dangerous
dogs are now subject to
further restrictions includ-
ing proper enclosure and
leashing requirements but
are allowed in the City.
Other changes to the ordi-
nance include how the Ani-
mal Control Authority and
the City of Hugo respond to
dog bite incidents. These
changes include vaccina-
tions, impounding, noticing
requirements, and hearing
and appeal procedures.
These changes will help
staff deal with dog inci-
dents more efficiently.
To obtain a copy of the Ani -
