Hugo, Minnesota Parks and Recreation Open Space Commission Minutes <br />September 12, 2007 <br />Page 2 <br />IV. Updates: <br />1. 2008 Parks Budget & C.I.P. <br />Public Works Director Chris Petree presented the proposed 5 -year Parks C.I.P. to the Parks <br />Commission. The Parks Commission discussed this and recommended that no changes were <br />necessary. There is a Budget Meeting on October 5t" to discuss this and other Budget items for <br />the Parks Department. <br />2. Land & Water Legacy Program <br />Public Works Director Chris Petree provided an update on the status of the application for funds <br />from the Land & Water Legacy Program. Applications are currently being reviewed and <br />recommendations will be made to the County Board by the end of the year. <br />3. 100 Acre Park (Eagle Scout Project) <br />Public Works Director Chris Petree and Parks Commission Chair Roger Clarke informed the <br />Parks Commission of the progress that has been made on the trail system to date. The entire <br />trail corridor has been cleared, and half the trail has been wood chipped. <br />a. Park Naming <br />The Parks Commission discussed possible names for the Park and reviewed the Park Naming <br />Policy. City Staff will compile the names suggested to the Parks Commission and review at the <br />next meeting. <br />4. Heritage Ponds Park <br />Public Works Director Chris Petree provided the Parks Commission with pictures of the <br />improvements to Heritage Ponds Park, which include irrigation, seed and a park sign. <br />5. Safe routes to school — Hugo Elementary <br />The City is considering a street Reconstruction project in the Hugo Elementary neighborhood. <br />Staff seeks a recommendation from the Parks Commission as to trails and sidewalks in the area. <br />Berger made motion, Pedersen seconded, to direct City Staff to provide a safe route to Hugo <br />Elementary, from existing trail and sidewalk system. <br />All Aye. Motion Carried. <br />6. YMCA -Youth -Senior Focus Group Results -Site visit offered <br />N.E. Metro YMCA Staff has requested that the Parks Commission make a site visit to inspect the <br />facility and review the YMCA programs. <br />Berger made motion, Parker seconded to schedule a tour of the N.E. Metro YMCA <br />All Aye. Motion Carried. <br />V. Oneka Elementary Gym Programming— 2007/2008 Schedule/Tot Time Equipment <br />Purchasing <br />Public Works Director Chris Petree and Parks Commissioner Rachel Berger discussed the Tot <br />Time Program and requested that the Parks Commission allocate additional funds to purchase <br />more equipment and expand the program. <br />
