Call to Order Roger Clarke Called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. Present: Roger Clarke, Rachel Berger, Pete Pedersen, Noel Schmidt, Russell Schmidt, Jim Taylor, Melissa Parker Absent: Dan Gabrielli, Dave Strub Staff Present: Scott Anderson — Public Works Director, Debi Close — Parks Secretary I. Approval of Minutes of August 13, 2008 Pedersen made a motion, Berger seconded to approve the minutes of the August 13, 2008 Parks Commission meeting. All Aye. Motion Carried. II. Discussion on Bernin Property/DNR Parking Lot and Boat Launch Pedersen led discussions with the Commission regarding future uses related to the Bernin property and the potential of educational programming which would require school busses to enter the future parking lot. Pederson commented on the benefits of having discussions with the DNR to consider a combined parking lot serving the future park and the boat launch. Clarke stated he would inquire with the DNR on any options of joint access to both lots. III. Discussion on 80 Acre Park Needs (alternatives to Hanson Pedersen discussed the need to review general items of interest that are wanted if future property is acquired for a park. Determination would be needed to match property size with future needs. Clark suggested a subcommittee being in place to evaluate the revised plan and put together a list of features to help determine proximity needs. The sport complex scoping subcommittee was formed with Russell Schmidt, Jim Taylor and Noel Schmidt. Berger also suggested contacting the planning commission to see if any others would be interested in joining this committee. IV. Tot Time Schedule and Advertising Scott Anderson, Public Works Director went over the necessity of inspecting current equipment for repair/replacement needs. Berger will join him next week for a review of equipment inventory. Russell Schmidt made a motion, Parker seconded to allocate $1,000.00 to replace/repair equipment for tot time. All aye. Motion Caried. V. Hardwood Creek Trail Extension to 1401h Street Clark informed Harwood Creek Trail discussions have been made by many residents wanting continuation of the trail south to 145th Street. Clark made a motion, Pedersen seconded that City Staff talk with Washington County about extending Hardwood Creek Trail south to 140th Street. VI. 2009 Budget Discussion Scott Anderson Public Works Director explained the budget and how future planning needs should be determined on how cost factors will be utilized. All commission members agreed a listing should be determined for prioritizing at a further date. VII. Other Scott Anderson Public Works Director updated the commission on the tree planting that has taken place this week at Oak Shore Park. 20 trees have been planted and 20 more are in process. Adjournment Berger made a motion, Russell Schmidt seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:35 p.m. All Aye. Motion Carried. Next Meeting: November 12, 2008
