Minutes
Parks Commission, City of Hugo
May 12, 2010
7:00 P.M.
Council Chambers, City Hall
Call to Order
Jim Taylor called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.
Present: Kris Birch, Roger Clarke, Derek Larsen, Mat Rauschendorfer, Jim Taylor, Noel
Schmidt
Absent: Rachel Berger, Dave Strub, Tom Windisch, Scott Anderson
Staff Present: Shayla Syverson, Parks Planner
Debi Close, Parks Secretary
I. Approval of Minutes of April 14, 2010
Larsen made a motion, Clarke seconded to approve the minutes of the April 14, 2010 Parks
Commission meeting.
All Ayes. Motion Carried.
II. Discussion on Hansen Prooertv Trails
Clarke was approached by a resident on off road bike trails and lack of them close to our
community. Clarke volunteered to contact the MN Off -Road Bike Association to partner to look
at building trails at the Hansen property. With the Hansen property already in planning process
for a trail system this is something that could be incorporated.
Taylor expressed concern that the primary focus of the trail system needs to be on Hugo
residents and Schmidt noted that trails have to be family friendly. There was discussion on
considering additional trails for off road biking, but the Commission was in agreement on an
emphasis on creating a family -friendly trail system.
Shayla Syverson, Parks Planner informed of the Gravel Tax funding through Washington
County. Recent changes in state statute on gravel pit taxation lead to this program and
Washington County is holding a workshop on May 25, 2010 to discuss funding options.
