Harlan Lehman, MN/WI Playground <br />After the presentations, the Parks Commission had a brief discussion and asked <br />questions of the vendors. After the vendors were dismissed, Taylor opened the floor for <br />discussion on the Heritage Ponds playground proposals with the residents. <br />Items discussed included: <br />• Concern of Heritage Ponds Park being close to Oneka Elementary School. An <br />understanding was reached with the consideration of non -school-age children <br />being unable to use the school equipment. <br />• Request for less equipment parks but more recreation activity parks, such as <br />hockey rinks and more baseball fields. The Parks Commission informed that <br />sports fields are currently on the goal setting list for future discussions. <br />• Suggested a barrier be built between the play structure and Heritage Parkway <br />with fencing or landscape depending on buffer distances. This will be evaluated. <br />• Encouraging new equipment and not repetitive from other existing local parks. <br />Unanimously agreed by all. <br />The Parks Commission decided to continue to work with St. Croix Recreation and <br />Flagship Recreation. Commissioners Rachel Berger, Tom Windisch and Jim Taylor <br />volunteered to meet with each of the vendors and give additional feedback on the <br />playground proposals. <br />Update on Health Sub -Committee and Bike Ride <br />Parks Planner, Shayla Syverson updated on the Statewide Health Improvement <br />Program grant contract. The Health Sub -Committee will receive $4,000. for grant funds <br />from Washington County. <br />Larsen made a motion, Strub seconded to recommend to the City Council that the SHIP <br />grant contract funds be used for the health campaign kick off event in April and the <br />family bike ride in September. <br />All Aye.
