MINUTES HUGO BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS AND APPEALS April 27, 2006 Chairperson Schumann called the meeting to order at 6:31 p.m. PRESENT: Puleo, Schumann ABSENT: Brunotte ALSO PRESENT: Bryan Bear, Community Development Director (CDD) Michele Lindau, Community Development Assistant Minutes of March 23, 2006 Puleo made motion, Schumann seconded, to recommend approval of the minutes of March 23, 2006 as submitted. All Ayes. Motion carried. Variance for John and Renee Uremovich for a Fence The Board considered the request of John and Renee Uremovich, 5515 137th Street North, for a variance to permit a six-foot high fence in a front yard. The property is a corner lot and has two front yards. The home faces 137th Street and the fence would be to the rear of the home along Fiona Avenue North. The zoning ordinance prohibits six-foot high privacy fences in a front yard and limits the height to four feet. Cindy Petty, 13679 Fiona Avenue North, asked where privacy fences were permitted. The CDD explained that six-foot privacy fences were permitted in the rear and side yards and. Fences were limited to four feet in the front yard. Petty said she was worried about increased traffic with the potential development to the east and the safety of her kids and teenager drivers. Schumann pointed out that a six-foot fence would be permitted along the rear property line without the variance and that would be the portion that would block the view, not the section along the street. Petty said the City needed to be careful in the future with granting these types of variances because of safety reasons.
