MINUTES
HUGO BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS AND APPEALS
OCTOBER 28, 2004
Chairperson Schumann called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
PRESENT: Puleo, Schumann
ABSENT: Brunotte
ALSO PRESENT: Bryan Bear, Community Development Director (CDD)
Michele Lindau, Secretary
Minutes October 14, 2004
Schumann made motion, Puleo seconded, to recommend approval of the minutes of October 14,
2004 as submitted.
All Ayes. Motion carried.
Anderson Variances for Accessory Buildings
The Board considered the application of Harlee and Fern Anderson, 12203 Fiona Avenue North,
for variances to allow for the construction of a 2,304 square foot detached accessory building.
Four variances are necessary. Variances were needed to exceed the number and size of the
exterior buildings. The property had two detached accessory buildings on the site. The applicant
was proposing to remove one of the buildings, measuring 22 feet wide by 35 feet long, to make
way for the new, larger building, measuring 32 feet wide by 72 feet long. Hugo Zoning
Ordinance only allows one building totaling 870 square feet and the applicant would like to have
two buildings totaling 3,168 square feet. A variance was also necessary to build closer to the
road than the principal structure. The home is located in the rear of the property with no room to
locate a building behind it. The final variance requested was to permit the accessory structures to
be constructed with building materials and colors different than those of the main house. The
house is constructed with cedar siding and a cedar roof. The proposed building would have
cream metal siding, similar to the existing detached accessory structure on site, but different from
the house.
The CDD explained that the lot was five acres and Harlee Anderson, the applicant, explained that
he maintains classic cars and wanted a building to work on them and store items indoors.
Chair Schumann opened the public hearing. There were no comments so he closed the public
hearing.
