MINUTES <br />HUGO BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS AND APPEALS <br />JUNE 14, 2007 <br />Chairperson Schumann called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Brunotte, Schumann <br />ABSENT: Puleo <br />ALSO PRESENT: Bryan Bear, Community Development Director (CDD) <br />Rachel Simone, Associate Planner <br />Michele Lindau, Community Development Assistant <br />Minutes of May 24, 2007 <br />Brunotte made motion, Schumann seconded, to recommend approval of the minutes of May 24, <br />2007 as submitted. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />Marko Variance for Setback for Deck Stairs <br />The Board considered the request of Julie and Joe Marko, 13500 Fiona Avenue North, for a <br />variance from the front yard setback to permit stairs to be constructed onto the existing deck on <br />the property. <br />The Associate Planner explained the property was on a corner lot resulting in two front and two <br />side yards. The deck was currently 26 feet away from the front property line. The stairs are <br />proposed to be constructed to the deck on the north side of the property, which is considered a <br />front yard, and will be 22 feet from the property line where 30 feet is required by ordinance. The <br />home was constructed in the front yard setback of 30 feet and would not allow anything to be <br />constructed on that side of the home. There is a slope to the land on the property of about 2 feet <br />going down from the north side to the south side. <br />Schumann opened the public hearing. <br />Brunotte asked staff if neighbors had been notified. <br />The Associate Planner said they had and staff had received no comments. <br />The applicant was present and said it was not meant to be a cost saving plan. If the stairs were to <br />be located on the other side of the deck, they would be below his son's window, within arms <br />reach, and the stairs would be too steep. <br />
