MINUTES <br />HUGO BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS AND APPEALS <br />August 23, 2007 <br />Chairperson Schumann called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Petryk, Schumann <br />ABSENT: Puleo <br />ALSO PRESENT: Bryan Bear, Community Development Director (CDD) <br />Rachel Simone, Associate Planner <br />Michele Lindau, Community Development Assistant <br />Minutes of July 12, 2007 <br />Petryk made motion, Schumann seconded, to recommend approval of the minutes for July 12, 2007 <br />as submitted. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />Wilson Tool Variances for Monument Sign <br />The Board considered the application from Wilson Tool, 12912 Farnham Avenue North, for <br />variances to allow construction of a 32 square foot monument sign. <br />The Associate Planner explained Wilson Tool had recently received administrative approval of <br />an addition to the main entrance of the building totaling approximately 520 square feet located <br />off Farnham Avenue. The applicant wanted to locate a monument sign near that entrance. A <br />variance was necessary to allow the sign to be located 15 feet — 3 inches from the front property <br />line where a 30 foot setback was required by ordinance. The building is located on a corner lot <br />which results in the property having two front yards. The second variance request was to allow <br />two monument signs on the property. The applicant currently has a monument sign located on <br />130th Street. The sign ordinance states that a property is only allowed to have one monument <br />sign. <br />Duane Berg was at the meeting representing Wilson Tool. Berg explained customers were <br />having difficulty finding the entrance to the building and they wanted to construct a monument <br />sign to make the entrance more visible. <br />Schumann questioned whether there would be a sight issue for traffic. The Associate Planner <br />explained that in staff's opinion it would not. <br />Petryk commented that is was a very attractive sign and had no problem with approving the <br />
