MINUTES <br />HUGO BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS AND APPEALS <br />May 27, 2010 <br />Chairperson Schumann called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Schumann, Weidt <br />ABSENT: Puleo <br />ALSO PRESENT: Bryan Bear, Community Development Director <br />Rachel Simone, Associate Planner <br />Dennis Fields, Community Development Assistant <br />Approval of Minutes — April 22, 2010 <br />Weidt made motion, Schumann seconded, to approve the minutes for April 22, 2010 as presented. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />Gibbs — Variance from Location and Size Requirements for Accessory Building <br />Rachel Simone, the Associate Planner, described the application to the Board of Zoning. The <br />applicant is asking for variances from the location of the accessory building and the size <br />requirement. The proposed building would be placed in front of the principle building on the lot <br />and be 2,498 sq ft while 2,000 sq ft is allowed. She described that the property is surrounded by <br />streets on three sides and has steep grades on a portion of the property. The building will be built <br />into the hillside. Staff recommended approval of both variance requests. <br />Schumann asked if the building would have utilities. <br />Rachel explained that no utilities would be added to the building that would constitute a dwelling <br />unit. <br />The applicant, Jake Gibbs, addressed the Board. He explained that he has lived in the city for 35 <br />years and would like to make a property improvements so that he can pass his property down to <br />family in the future. <br />Schumann opened the public hearing. <br />Randy Backus, the contractor, answered that there would be no bathrooms except for a utility tub <br />in the building. <br />Schumann closed the public hearing. <br />
