REDISTRICTING WORKSHOP
TUESDAY, MARCH 6, 2012 AT 8:00 A.M.
PRESENT: Haas, Klein, Petryk, Weidt, Miron
ABSENT: None
ALSO PRESENT: City Administrator Bryan Bear and City Clerk Michele Lindau
Following the decennial census, municipalities are required to redraw or reestablish district
boundaries to ensure people in each district are equally represented. City staff has been working
with the census block information and parcel data to best determine how the wards and precincts
should be drawn. The legislative redistricting plan adopted by the state on February 2, 2012 has
split the City into two districts; therefore, requiring the City of Hugo be split into five precincts.
Council reviewed the plan prepared by City staff and agreed it met all the statutory requirements
as well as achieve population equality among wards. This plan will be posted on the City of
Hugo's website and in the next newsletter. The Council will then adopt a final plan at its regular
scheduled meeting on April 2, 2012.
