I-35 W/E COALITION MEETING
CITY COUNCILS OF HUGO, LINO LAKES, CENTERVILLE,
FOREST LAKE, AND COLUMBUS
WASHINGTON COUNTY AND ANOKA COUNTY
THURSDAY, JULY 21, 2011- 7:00 PM

Mayor Miron called the meeting to order and the attendees introduced themselves.

Absent: Petryk
Also Present: Hugo - City Administrator Mike Ericson, Community Development
Director Bryan Bear, and City Engineer Jay Kennedy.
Washington County — Senior Planner Ann Pung-Terwedo

Community Development Director Bryan Bear provided an update on the completion of
the I-35E/CSAH14 Interchange Project. State inspectors still need to complete their
work after the state shutdown. There is a punch list which includes some signage
installation.
Washington County Senior Planner Ann Pung-Terwedo provided an update on the Rush
Line Corridor Project. Tom Weidt, Susan Young, and Tom Wilharber all serve on the
Rush Line Task Force. The #288 Metropolitan Council bus ridership is high and funding
was extended for one more year. Susan explained how important it was to have a letter
of support from the Coalition, and members voted to have staff draft a letter and attach
resolution. Ann provided an update on a number of road construction projects in Forest
Lake including Broadway Avenue, which involves a new interchange.
Susan Young reported on the road construction projects in Forest Lake as well as
discussed the Metro Transit Funding, which is a mayor policy discussion issue. She
stated the Metro Transit Taxing District generates $285,000 a year for Forest Lake. She
asked for support from the Coalition for the TH61/CSAH97 improvement project, and
the members agreed to a letter of support with an attached resolution.
Community Director Bryan Bear discussed the I-35 Study, which is being completed by
MnDot with input from contiguous cities. It will take 15-18 months to complete. He
stated that Kate Garwood and Anoka County are imitating the study with Washington
County. Members reported on transportation construction projects in the city and county.
Members agreed to invite the Washington County parks director and Forest Lake area

park director to the next meeting to discuss multi -modal transportation issues and the
Benson Airport. Members also wanted to make sure new Metropolitan Council
Representative Sandy Rummel is invited to the next meeting as she was unable to attend
this meeting.
Members voted to schedule the next meeting for Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 7:00
p.m. at Hugo City Hall.
Haas made motion, Weidt seconded, to adjourn at 8:40 p.m.
