HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009.02.03 CC Minutes - Goal SettingMINUTES FOR THE CITY COUNCIL GOAL SETTING MEETING OF FEBRUARY 3, 2009 Mayor Fran Miron called the meeting to order at 9:005 a.m. PRESENT: Haas, Klein, Petryk, Weidt, Miron ALSO PRESENT: City Administrator Mike Ericson, Community Development Director Bryan Bear, Public Works Director Scott Anderson, and Deputy Fire Chief Jadon 011ila Review of 2008 City Goals City Administrator Mike Ericson reviewed with Council the status of the 2008 City Focus Goals. He stated that with the events and aftermath of the May 25, 2008 tornado disaster, 2008 will go down in the City's history. Review of 2009 Fire Department Goals Deputy Fire Chief Jadon 011ila shared with Council the proposed 2009 goals of the Hugo Fire Department. They are: • Firefighter safety • Protection of life and property • Fulltime position for chief and fire marshal • 8/00 Mhz radio implementation - March 2009 • Implementation of NFPA 1306 • Continue refinements of BLS ambulance service • Plan for training HFD members as paramedics • Develop a fire department inspection plan for businesses • Replace rescue truck 4216, which is in need of much repair • Develop specifications for ladder truck for purchase in 2011 • Plan for 2nd fire station - north location • Hire two daytime firefighters Review of 2009 Planning Commission Goals Community Development Director Bryan Bear shared with Council the proposed 2009 goals of the Hugo Planning Commission as discussed at their last Planning Commission meeting. They are: • Finish the northern gateway • Code enforcement subcommittee to discuss variance procedures • Implementation of the downtown plan • Commercial and Industrial design guidelines • Track blighted properties in downtown • Zoning Ordinance updates. • Bus tour in 2009 Review of 2009 EDA Goals Community Development Director Bryan Bear reviewed the 2009 goals of the EDA. They are: • Create Business Retention and Expansion Subcommittee of the EDA • Continue working on downtown redevelopment projects • Establish quality commercial development • Continue implementation of the EDA marketing plan. Review of 2009 Parks Commission Goals Public works Director Scott Anderson reviewed the 2009 goals of the Parks and Recreational Commission. They are: • Further Development of Rice Lake Park • Additional equipment at Rice Lake Park soccer fields • Continue research of need and location search for large acre park for ball field complex • Pad/landscaping for seasonal restroom at Frog Hollow Park • Tot time Equipment upgrades Final Selection of 2009 City Goals Mayor Miron guided discussion of ideas and suggestions from Councilmembers and created six different categories as follows: • Transportation • Public Safety Goals • Focus on Economic Development • Parks Projects • Comprehensive Plan Implementation • Long -Term Recovery Service Committee Council directed staff to prepare and finalize the list of goals with completion dates for approval at the next regularly scheduled meeting.
