WASHINGTON COUNTY BOARD MEETING
WASHINGTON COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER
JUNE 16,2009,3:30 P.M.
PRESENT: Haas, Klein, Petryk, Miron
ABSENT: Weidt
Others present: City Administrator Mike Ericson, May Township Board Chair Bill Voedisch,
Hugo Residents, Washington County Board, Washington County Assessor Bruce Munekee, and
County Staff
The Hugo City Council and May Township Board met with the Washington County officials to
discuss the reclassification of horse boarding operations to commercial. This change has greatly
impacted property taxes owed.
Kevin Corbid addressed the County Board and stated that because of late 2009 state legislative
changes and a study to be conducted by the Minnesota Department of Revenue on this issues, the
Department of Taxpayer Services will be recommending to the County Board of Appeals and
Equalization that the 2009 change in classification of these operations be delayed one year. Bill
Vodeisch addressed the Board and requested the return to the original classification in order to
maintain rural character.
Councilmember Chuck Haas represented the Hugo City Council and addressed the Board
requesting the same support for a return to the original classification for horse boarding
operations. He noted the preservation of rural character is formed in the City's Comprehensive
Plan as well as the County's.
Haas made motion, Klein seconded, to adjourn at 4:00 p.m.
All Ayes. Motion carried.
