Candidate Forum
Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.
Council Chambers
Present: Council Members Haas, Petryk, Puleo, Mayor Miron
Absent: Council Member Granger
Staff Present: City Administrator Mike Ericson
The Candidate Forum was sponsored by The Citizen newspaper with a member of the League of Women
Voters, Jaclyn Schroeder, acting as a the moderator. The Citizen Publisher Louis Melamed introduced himself
and thanked everyone for attending and thanked the Hugo Lions, who provided refreshments for the reception
after the forum.
Candidates attending were Washington County Commissioner Dennis Hegberg and Erik Langness for the
Commissioner seat, and Karen Cariveau-Wright and Phillip Klien for Council Member Ward 2. Tom Weidt,
candidate for the Council Member at Large position, and Mayor Fran Miron were allowed two minutes at the
end of the forum to introduce themselves and explain why they were running for City Council.
Candidate Derek Larsen for Council Member at Large provided a written statement stating his withdrawal from
the election and his support for Tom Weidt. His statement was read aloud by the moderator.
The meeting was adjourned by Mayor Miron at 8:15 p.m.
