RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE HONORABLE FRAN MIRON FOR HIS 20 YEARS OF PUBLIC
SERVICE AS COUNCIL MEMBER AND MAYOR SERVING THE CITIZENS OF
HUGO, MINNESOTA
WHEREAS, Mayor Miron served as a Council Member on the Hugo City Council from January 1991 to December
1994; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Miron served as the as the Mayor of the City of Hugo from January 1995 to December 1998 and
again from January 2001 to December 2012; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Miron served as President of Hugo's Economic Development Authority from its creation in June
2004 to December 2012; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Miron governed the City during a time of rapid growth, with the population increasing from 4,417
to more than 14,000 currently; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Miron guided the City's growth through updates to the 1998 and 2008 Comprehensive Plans; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Miron has maintained a strong commitment to downtown redevelopment with the updating of the
downtown plan and through continuous support of the retention and growth of area businesses; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Miron worked with federal, state, and county officials on countless infrastructure improvements,
including the reconstruction of CSAH 8 and improvements to the I-35E/CSAH 14 interchange, which
facilitated economic development and encouraged business growth within the City, and
WHEREAS, Mayor Miron led the City in recovery and building efforts after the May 25, 2008 tornado devastated the
City of Hugo with the loss of a life, destruction of property, and nearly 150 people left homeless; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Miron supported responsible and progressive financial planning and budgeting techniques that
have resulted in the City's current AA+ Bond Rating, and
WHEREAS, Mayor Miron, while serving the Citizens of Hugo, successfully raised six children with the support of his
wife Mary Ann; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Miron has become a well-respected, trusted, compassionate and astute leader of the City who
never wavered from his primary commitment in protecting the public's health, safety and welfare; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Miron chose not to seek reelection as the Mayor of Hugo, but instead successfully sought a
position as a Washington County Commissioner; and
WHEREAS, The accomplishments of Fran Miron, while serving on the Council, are too numerous to cite;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUGO, WASHINGTON
COUNTY, MINNESOTA, that the Hugo City Council officially recognizes the Honorable Mayor Fran Miran for his
commitment to 20 years of excellent public service to the citizens of Hugo and, on behalf of the entire City of Hugo,
publicly thanks him for his dedication and service and looks forward to his representation of Hugo as Washington County
Commissioner for District 1.
Adopted and passed this 17th day of December, 2012 by order of the Hugo City Council.
