HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011.10.17 RESO 2011-35RESOLUTION 2011-35 A RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FROM THE CITY OF HUGO FOR THE PROPOSED FOREST LAKE SCHOOL DISTRICT LEVY AND BOND REFERENDUM WHEREAS, approximately 200 Hugo residents are enrolled as students in the Forest Lake School District; and WHEREAS, schools receive funding from federal government, state government, and local taxes, but funding from the State of Minnesota has not kept pace with inflation; and WHEREAS, 90% of the school districts in Minnesota have voter -approved levies to compensate for the lack of government funding; and WHEREAS, Forest Lake's current levy remains among the lowest local levies in this area; and WHEREAS, school property tax rates in the Forest Lake District are actually lower than they were 10 years ago and Forest Lake is one of the lowest taxed districts in the metro area; and, WHEREAS, since 1994, the communities that make up Forest Lake Area School District have voted to maintain a local school levy; and WHEREAS, a successful levy renewal will not increase taxes; WHEREAS, the Forest Lake School Board is requesting voters approve a renewal of expiring school district referendum revenue levy authorization; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUGO, MINNESOTA that the City of Hugo strongly supports the renewal of the existing property tax referendum proposed by the Forest Lake School Board to be voted on by residents in the 2011 election on November 8, 2011.
