A RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FROM THE CITY OF HUGO FOR THE
PROPOSED FOREST LAKE SCHOOL DISTRICT LEVY
AND BOND REFERENDUM
WHEREAS, approximately 200 Hugo residents are students who are enrolled in
the Forest Lake School District are Hugo residents; and
WHEREAS, schools receive funding from federal government, state government,
and local taxes; and
WHEREAS, funding from the State of Minnesota has not kept pace with
inflation; and
WHEREAS, cuts will result in increased class sizes, school and pool closings,
and outdated textbooks; and
WHEREAS, repairs are needed to make school building safer and more energy
efficient; and
WHEREAS, each year the Forest Lake School District has fallen further and
further behind financially; and
WHEREAS, of the 337 school districts in Minnesota, 302 have voter -approved
levies to compensate for the lack of government funding; and
WHEREAS, Forest Lake School District property taxes are lower today than they
were ten years ago; and
WHEREAS, the Forest Lake School Board is requesting voters to approve a
new operating levy and bond for buildings;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF HUGO, MINNESOTA that the City of Hugo strongly supports the
levy and bond referendum endorsed by the Forest Lake Area School Board and the Yes
For Schools Group to be voted on by residents in the 2010 General Election.
Passed and adopted this 18'h day of October, 2010.
