RESOLUTION 2009-5 <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING APPROVAL OF A TRAFFIC SIGNAL BY MnDOT AT <br />THE HIGHWAY 61/130 STREET INTERSECTION, AND REQUESTING <br />ADDITIONAL MnDOT FUNDING <br />WHEREAS, The City has applied for Cooperative Agreement funding through MnDot on an <br />annual basis since 2001 related to construction of turn lanes and a traffic signal at the TH <br />61/130' Street intersection; and, <br />WHEREAS, the City received a Cooperative Agreement funding award in 2008 in the amount of <br />$421,200 to be used for improvements to the Highway 61/130' Street intersection. The <br />improvements as approved include the construction of turn lanes and associated drainage <br />improvements without a traffic signal; and, <br />WHEREAS, the City believes that a traffic signal is warranted at the intersection based on a <br />study of the traffic characteristics at the intersection; and <br />WHEREAS, the City's Engineer has estimated the cost of providing a traffic signal at $250,000; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, the City's Engineer has estimated the cost of installing railroad crossing gates and <br />other railway improvements to be $225,000; and <br />WHEREAS, the City's Engineer has estimated the total cost of the intersection improvements at <br />$1,550,000, including roadways, drainage, traffic signal, and railroad improvements; <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF HUGO, <br />MINNESOTA: <br />1. The City requests that MnDot approve the installation of a traffic signal and railroad <br />improvements at the TH 61/136m Street intersection. <br />2.
