HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009.01.20 RESO 2009-05RESOLUTION 2009-5 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING APPROVAL OF A TRAFFIC SIGNAL BY MnDOT AT THE HIGHWAY 61/130 STREET INTERSECTION, AND REQUESTING ADDITIONAL MnDOT FUNDING WHEREAS, The City has applied for Cooperative Agreement funding through MnDot on an annual basis since 2001 related to construction of turn lanes and a traffic signal at the TH 61/130' Street intersection; and, WHEREAS, the City received a Cooperative Agreement funding award in 2008 in the amount of $421,200 to be used for improvements to the Highway 61/130' Street intersection. The improvements as approved include the construction of turn lanes and associated drainage improvements without a traffic signal; and, WHEREAS, the City believes that a traffic signal is warranted at the intersection based on a study of the traffic characteristics at the intersection; and WHEREAS, the City's Engineer has estimated the cost of providing a traffic signal at $250,000; and, WHEREAS, the City's Engineer has estimated the cost of installing railroad crossing gates and other railway improvements to be $225,000; and WHEREAS, the City's Engineer has estimated the total cost of the intersection improvements at $1,550,000, including roadways, drainage, traffic signal, and railroad improvements; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF HUGO, MINNESOTA: 1. The City requests that MnDot approve the installation of a traffic signal and railroad improvements at the TH 61/136m Street intersection. 2. The City requests additional funding from MnDot to be used to fund the traffic signal and railroad crossing improvements. Council members voting AYE: Petryk, Klein, Miron Council members voting NAY: Whereupon said resolution was declared passed and adopted this 2e day of January, 2009.
