RESOLUTION DECLARING THE WEEK OF MARCH 5-12, 1989
AS "VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA WEEK"
WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America, a Christian social service
organization,, is celebrating it's 93rd year of service to the people of
Minnesota and the nation; it is therefore certainly appropriate for us to
join in the observance of this milestone with the commemoration of March
5-129 1989 as Volunteers of America Week; and
WHEREAS. the Volunteers of America is making a valuable contribution to
the people of Minnesota by providing two residential treatment centers for
emotionally handicapped boys; a children's emergency shelter; six programs
serving autistic, autistic -like and/or developmentally disabled children
and youth; 50 treatment foster homes and group homes for infants, children
and youth; four homes for elderly and/or mentally disabled adults; 42
senior citizen dining sites in Anoka and Hennepin -C-Gu-nties; a pre-release
and work -release correctional program for men and a jail, workhouse, and
work -release correctional facility for female offenders; plus three
housing complexes for families, the handicapped, and the elderly; and four
long-term care facilities; and
WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America, through it's compassionate yet
practical crusade, is extending spiritual fellowship as it provides relief
where it is most urgently needed; and
WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America is commemorating it's founding in 1896
and urges others to uphold the American philanthropic spirit through their
commitment to help those in need;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF HUGO, WASHINGTON
COUNTY, MINNESOTA, that I, George Atkinson, Mayor of the City .of Hugo, do
hereby proclaim the week of March 5-12, 1989, as VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA
WEEK in the City of Hugo,
AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this proclamation be
transmitted to the Volunteers of America as evidence of our esteem.
