RESOLUTION REQUESTING TRAFFIC SAFETY ASSISTANCE FOR
THE INTERSECTION OF TH 61 AND COUNTY ROAD 8 IN THE
CITY OF HUGO.
WHEREAS, The City Council has deemed the intersection of TH #61 and
County Road 8 to be a growing traffic problem as a result of increased
traffic volumes, and limited controls at said intersection, and
WHEREAS, The Burlington Northern Railroad is in the process of
removing the tracks parallel to Highway 61 at this intersection, and
WHEREAS, The City Council has indicated a willingness to participate
with the State and County in an effort to correct this potentially
hazardous situation;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HU8O,
WASHINGTON COUNTY. MINNESOTA:

1. The City requests that the Minnesota Department of Transportation
install a traffic signal at the intersection in question.
2. The Minnesota Department of Transportation consider the widening and
improvements of Highway 61 at this intersection to provide for better
turn lanes and better traffic flow.
3. Request that the Washington County Highway Department improve County
Road 8 and lower the street grade from Highway 61 to a point
approximately 200 feet to the west.
4. The City Engineer and City Administrator are directed to meet with the
appropriate State and County agencies to express the Council's
concerns regarding the community priority.
5. The City attorney be directed to research the Burlington Northern
Railroad's responsibility with regard to participating in improvement
of roadways necessary as a result of track abandonment at street
intersections.

Olson, Vail, Atkinson
Upon roll the following Councilmembers voted NAY: None
Whereupon said resolution was declared
