RESOLUTION 1988-14 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUGO,, <br />WASHINGTON COUNTY, MINNESOTA SUPPORTING THE CONCEPT OF <br />MINNEAPOLIS -ST. PAUL HOSTING THE 1996 SUMMER OLYMPICS. <br />I <br />WHEREAS, the Secretary General of the United States Olympic Committee <br />has initiated an inquiry to determine whether the cities of Mpls-St. Paul <br />are interested in hosting the 1996 Summer Olympics; and <br />WHEREAS, the mayors of Mpls-St. Paul have asked area municipalities <br />for their general support to the concept of hosting the 1996 Summer <br />Olympic Games; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mpls-St. Paul Metro Area enjoys a temporate summer <br />climate well suited to international athletic competitions and now <br />possesses numerous excellent athletic facilities suitable as Olympic <br />venues; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mpls-St. Paul Metro Area has the capacity to provide the <br />necessary accommodations to support visiting athletes and spectators; and <br />WHEREAS, the 1996 Summer Olympic Games would bring significant <br />revenues to the Mpls-St. Paul Metro Area as well as extensive <br />international recognition without expending taxpayer funds; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Hugo,, State of <br />Minnesota, hereby express to the Mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul its <br />firm support for the concept of hosting the Summer Olympic Games in 1996. <br />ADOPTED AND PASSED THIS 21ST DAY OF MARCH, 1988. <br />VOTING AYE: <br />VOTING NAY: <br />Peltier, Potts, Olson, Atkinson <br />./� Wit% '' .� �/ , � �. <br />ATTEST: <br />MarY, Creager, Cil -'Clerk: <br />
