RESOLUTION 1985- 24 A RESOLUTION DEALING WITH THE INSTALLATION OF SAFETY DEVICES AT THE INTERSECTION OF WASHINGTON COUNTY ROAD 84 / 170 TH STREET and HIGHWAY 61 HUGO MINNESOTA. TO; COMMISSIONER OF PUBLIC SAFETY MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY TRANSPORTATION BUILDING ST. PAUL MINN. 55155 BE IT RESOLVED. By the City Council of the City of Huqo, Minnesota, the following: WHEREAS, The City of Huao has experienced many many accidents at the above mentioned intersection, resulting in property damage, personal injury and approximately a half a dozen fatalities. WHEREAS, Washinqton County in their effort to reduce the accident rated at this intersection, installed rumble strips on Washington County road M4 / 170th street. WHEREAS, The City of Huqo recognized this intersection as a problem several years aqo and installed two sodium vapor lights in an effort to reduce the accident rate. WHEREAS, With the above mentioned saftey measures installed at this intersection. the accident rate continues to climb and on Oct, 13 1985 we experienced yet another accident with personal injuries and another fatality. WHEREAS, On Nov. 4 1985 the Huqo City Council discussed the installation of additional safety equipment at this intersection. WHEREAS. On Nov, 16 1985 the City of Huqo experienced its latest accident with injuries and another fatality. WHEREAS, On Nov, 18 1985 two days after the latest fatality, the City of Huqo received a petition with over ninety siqnatures requesting that some form of signals be installed at this intersection. Petition and newspaper article attached. c 0 -2- WHEREAS, The City of Hugo respectfully and URGENTLY requests that at a minimum FLASHING amber and red lights be installed at this intersection ( amber for highway 61 and red for Washington county road 84 ).
