The meeting was called to order by Mayor Fran Miron at 8:30 PM.
PRESENT: Goiffon, Johnson, Leroux, Miron
City Administrator, Robert Museus
ABSENT: Barnes
The meeting was called to discuss the need for a new Fire Hall in the community and
options for its development. The meeting was convened immediately following an open
house at the Fire Hall, which ran from 7:30PM to 8:30PM. The Mayor welcomed those
present, and stated that the purpose of the meeting was to hold an informal discussion
regarding the needs of the Fire Department, and he briefly outlined what the City has done
over the last two years in reviewing the need for a new fire facility, including the
appointirent of a Citizen's Review Committee, hiring an architect, and conducting of the
bond referendum in the Fall of 1996. Mr. Trossen, project architect, reviewed the three
options prepared to -date for the new Fire Hall:
L Remodel the existing facility and retain the City Hall as part of the site.
2. Remodel the existing facility and move City Ball.
3. Construct a new facility at another location.
Following Mr. Trossen's presentation, there was informal discussion between the Council
and members of the public present regarding the future need for a Fire Hall, its location,
and what would best serve the Department's needs. There was general consent that the
best course of action, and the one that would provide the Fire Department the greatest
benefit, was the construction of a new building separate from the City Hall. The Mayor
requested that discussion of a second bond referendum be placed on the agenda for a
regular Council meeting in the near future..
Leroux made motion, Goiffon seconded, to adjourn at 10:20PM.
