Victor Gardens Park Facilities The Commission reviewed the proposed improvements to the park in Victor Gardens. Specifically, the Commission reviewed plans for the gazebo, sidewalks, and landscaping and found them to be acceptable. II. Diamond Point East and West Development Applications The Commission reviewed the development plans for Diamond Point East and West. Upon listening to an overview of the proposal and reviewing the plans, the Commission unanimously recommended that the City accept the 13.19 -acre park property in the southeast corner of Goodview Avenue and 145th Street. Further, the Planning Commission requested to review the plan prior to final plat approval to determine the appropriate location for sidewalks/trails and pedestrian crossings. III. Sunset Lake Access Discussion — Resident Request for Access to Lake The Commission listened to a request from Mr. John Newland regarding the possibility of the Sunset Lake HOA obtaining access to the City parkland at the end of Homestead Avenue. After discussing the matter, the Commission requested that Mr. Newland further discuss his request with the HOA prior to further consideration by the Commission. IV. Washington County — Master Trail Plan for the Hardwood Creek Trail John Rask provided background information on Washington County's desire to complete a Page 1 Hugo, Minnesota Parks and Recreation Open Space Commission Meeting Minutes May 14, 2003 Page 2 Master Trail Plan for the Hardwood Creek Trail. Mr. Rask noted that Washington County would be surveying trail users and attending a future Parks Commission meeting to discuss the trail. V. Update and discussion of potential park sites The Commission discussed potential park sites, including the potential of acquiring the Oneka Ridge Golf Course. Harlee Anderson, representing Oneka Ridge Golf Course, was present and discussed his interest in selling the course to the City. The Commission also discussed several other potential sites. VI. Discuss trail along Oneka Lake Boulevard John Rask informed the Commission that residents of Sweet Grass Meadows and Oneka Lake View subdivisions have requested a trail along Oneka Lake Boulevard extending from Goodview Avenue to Geneva Avenue. Upon discussion the request, the Commission recommended that staff study the feasibility of the trail and present its findings back to the Commission. VII. Park Master Plan Update — Summer Intern John Rask informed the Commission that the City Council approved the hiring of a summer intern to assist with summer projects, including the update to the Parks Master Plan. VIII. Updates: The Commission received updates from the Planning Commission, City Council, and CD Director John Rask. NEXT MEETING: June 11, 2003 at 6:30 p.m. LOCATION — CITY HALL
