HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016.06.16 CC PowerPointWater Conservation updateUpdate on Water Conservation Measures 6-16-2014 Background • City has initiated a number of efforts to conserve water • Focus in 2014 has been on — Water Re -use • Bonding Bill — Stormwater Policy • Approved by Council • To be formally adopted as part of overall stormwater plan • Focuses on re -use and infiltration • Will lead to changes in development practices • Coordination with RCWD — Water Conservation Goals included other objectives: Education /Awareness Website — Discussion on conservation efforts — Hugo examples & initiatives • Soil monitoring sensors — Conservation tips — Stormwater CIP — Etc. — Website is a work in progress • Collaboration with others Water Audits • Beginning with City Buildings and Grounds — City Hall audit underway (PW staff) — Template being developed — Recommendations will be forthcoming • HOAs are next (willing participants) — Discussion with WCD and Water's Edge concerning grant program • Residential Program to follow — Partnership with irrigation contractors — Do-it-yourself programs Water Rebate Program • Preliminary program presented last fall • Rebates to homeowners for installation of water efficient appliances, toilets, etc. — From water fund • Program is nearly ready to be implemented Other Items • 6 Cities Feasibility Study — Hugo, Lino Lakes, Centerville, Circle Pines, Columbus, Lexington — Should water systems be combined? • Met Council study — N E Metro Alternatives Study • DNR Groundwater Management Area • USGS study includes Hugo Lakes • Discussion on Rates Discussion • Council Priorities • Direction to staff • Implement water rebate program?
