Background
• $36,000 Met Council Grant
• Will pay for 75% of rebate
• $9,000 Washington County Grant
City's 25% match to Met Council Grant
•Program implemented in January, 2016
Program Basics
•To qualify:
• Be a Hugo resident.
• Receive a water bill from the City.
• Make all purchases in the same year in which you are applying
for the rebate.
• Not apply for replacements in a new construction home.
•Eligible:
• WaterSense labeled toilet replacement
• Energy Star clothes washing machine replacement
• Irrigation system audits by a WaterSense audit -certified
professional that result in an irrigation system Controller
replacement with a WaterSense labeled controller
• Replacement of broken or inefficient sprinkler heads
First Quarter Numbers
• The City of Hugo will rebate residents up to 50% of the cost
of the item, up to a maximum of:
• $50 for WaterSense toilets
• $100 for Energy Star washing machine
• $200 for WaterSense audits, irrigation controllers, and/or
replacement irrigation heads.
• Received 10 applications
• Most after promotional card received in water bill.
• 6 clothes washer replacement applications
• 4 toilet replacement applications
• 9 toilets (total) replaced
• Total Rebate Amount = $1,800
• Estimated Annual Water Saved (Gal.) = 100,000
Moving Forward
• The City of Hugo will rebate residents up to 100% of the cost
of the item, up to a maximum of:
$100 for WaterSense toilets
• $150 for Energy Star washing machine
• $200 for WaterSense audits, irrigation controllers, and/or
replacement irrigation heads.
• Promoted in City Newsletter

Background
•July 2015 the City of Hugo joined the Met Council
RFP.
•Approximately 23 entities total.
•February 2016 the lottery results were released.
• Geronimo Energy
• Argo Navis
• 240 kW (402,960 kWh).
•Hugo uses approximately 1,059,124 kWh/year
•Lottery subscription size =approximately 38% of
total current use.
• City Hall, Public Works, Fire Dept., and about 3 more
premise accounts.

•Support renewable energy
• No upfront capital investment
•Low risk
•Simple pricing structure
• Save one penny per kWh subscribed to within garden
• Annual energy savings
• First year: $4,029.60
• 25th year: $3,572.86
• Degradation factor = 0.5% per year
•Total: $94,921.06
The Concerning
•Time and energy commitment invested
• 25 year commitment
• Xcel has not approved any of these projects yet
• Supposedly far along in the process
• Scandia has not approved this site for a solar garden
But, Wait .... There's More
• Geronimo has more proposed gardens
•Potentially could offset most/all of the City's usage
with subscription
•Keep in mind: Time and energy commitment
invested
