HUGO BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS AND APPEALS'
SEPTEMBER 26, 2002
Chairperson Schumann called the meeting to order at 6:30p.m.
PRESENT: Brunotte, Puleo, Schumann
ALSO PRESENT: John Rask, Community Development Director
Michele Lindau, Secretary
Minutes of September 12, 2002
Brunotte made motion, Puleo seconded, to approve the minutes of September 12,
2002 as presented.
Wenzel Variance for Garage
The Board considered the request of Jeffrey and Dawn Wenzel, 4930 Gallivan
Court North, for a variance to construct a 780 square foot garage addition. The
existing garage and addition would total 1,164 square feet. The zoning ordinance
limits the size of an attached garage to 1,000 feet.
The applicant's request included removing a portion of the current garage and
adding it to the home, leaving 384 square feet of garage space. The 780 square
foot addition would create a total 1,164 square feet of garage space. The garage
would be designed for three single stalls.
Other than the applicant, there was no one present at the meeting who wished to
speak on the request.
Brunotte made motion, Schumann seconded, to recommend approval of the
variance for Jeffery and Dawn Wenzel.
All Ayes. Motion carried.
Schwab Variance for Pole Building
The Board considered the request of Steven Schwab for a variance to permit a
2,160 square foot accessory building 32 feet from the side property line. The

City's Comprehensive Land Use Regulations require that the pole building be set
back 40 feet from the side lot line.
It was noted in the staff report that at the time the home was constructed the required
setback was 20 feet. In 1999, the City increased the setback from 20 to 40 feet. As
such, the hardship is caused by a change to the ordinance and not by the applicant.
Other than the applicant, there was no one present at the meeting who wished to
speak on the request.
Puleo made motion, Brunotte seconded, to recommend approval of the variance for
Steven Schwab.
All Ayes. Motion carried.
