HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017.06.21 Park Minutes Minutes Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Commission Meeting of June 21, 2017 Hugo City Hall Present: Cathy Moore-Arcand, Roger Clarke,John Pontrelli, Dave Strub, Ranell Tennyson Absent: Mat Rauschendorfer, Nicole Schmid Staff Present: Scott Anderson, Public Works Director; Shayla Denaway, Parks Planner; Debi Close, Parks Secretary Strub called the meeting to order at 7:04 pm. 1. Approval of Minutes from May Meeting Tennyson made a motion, Pontrelli seconded to approve the minutes of the May 17, 2017 Parks Commission meeting as presented. All Aye. Motion carried. 2. Oath of Office of Roger Clar<e Strub welcomed Rodger Clarke back to the Parks Commission. Clarke read and signed the Oath of office. 3. Comprehensive Plan Workshop Kendra Lindahl, Landform Inc,gave an update on the March 22, 2017 Parks Commission meeting and the Open House Workshop that was held on April 19, 2017. Discussion included: updates on policy documents/guidelines,greenway corridor, eastern Hugo natural resource management land use,trail connections, open house workshop responses, programming, partnerships, population statistics, facilities, open space plan, future parks plans, active living, dog parks,trail types and boundaries. The proposed updates include drafting policies to support the needs of the changing population. It will aslo include updating the maps to include newly constructed parks and trails, change neighborhood boundaries, reduce community park search areas, and add new proposed trail connections. Finally, in the plan update, tables and graphs will be used to provide information more clearly. 4. Public Works Update Public Works Director Scott Anderson gave an update on current projects. There has been a positive response to the clearly and shrub removal at the Goodview Avenue property. It continues to be monitored for trash regularly. The pollinator habitat has been planted at Irish Avenue Park by volunteers. This project was previously approved by the Parks Commission and is underway. Additional funding was required to make replacements and repairs to the concrete at Victor Square and Diamond Point Park, but the work has been completed. The sidewalk project on 147th Street has been completed. Parks Planner Shayla Denaway gave an update on recreation programs-Tech Tac Toe is going well but Park Play days through the YMCA has low attendance. 5. Adjournment Tennyson made a motion, Moore-Arcand seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:42 pm. All Ayes. Motion carried.
