Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Commission
Meeting of July 18, 2018
Hugo City Hall, 7:00 pm
Present: Dave Strub, Roger Clarke, Cathy Moore—Arcand, Ranell Tennyson,
Absent: Mat Rauschendorfer, Nicole Schmid
Staff Present: Shayla Denaway, Parks Planner
Scott Anderson, Public Works Director
Debi Close,Secretary
Strub called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.
1. Approval of Minutes from the June 20, 2018 Meeting
Moore—Arcand made a motion,Tennyson seconded to approve the minutes of the June 20, 2018 Parks
Commission meeting.
Ayes: Moore—Arcand,Tennyson,Strub
Abstained: Clarke
Motion carried.
2. Hopkins Schoolhouse Committee
Parks Planner Shayla Denaway informed that the Council approved formation of a committee to work on
several items related to the Hopkins schoolhouse including fixing the roof, pursuing listing on the National
Register,and evaluating a public-private partnership. The Council is looking to have a Parks Commission
member serve on the Hopkins Schoolhouse Committee.
Strub made a motion,Tennyson seconded to approve Moore—Arcand to represent the Parks Commission on
the Hopkins Schoolhouse Committee.
All Aye. Motion Carried.

Parks Planner Shayla Denaway updated on the recent improvements within city parks.
Oneka Lake Park—soft surfacing holes and cracks repaired
Val Jean Park—Tennis court was resurfaced
Arbre Park—Basketball court resurfaced
Lions Park—Playground is scheduled for removal early August and construction of the new playground mid-
September
Clearwater Creek Preserve- Master planning process moving forward after successful open house meeting
Strub requested adding the tennis court resurfacing/repair cost to the annual budget for routine
maintenance as needed.
All Park Commissioners agreed.
4. Recreation Program Updates
The Bazillions Family Concert-June 20
Climb Theater-August 2
Tech Tac Toe-current
Friday with Firefighters-current
Park Play Days-current
Tour De Hugo-September 22
Fall Movie Night—not scheduled yet
Park Play days continues to have a good turn out,Tech Tac Toe continues to be successful and registration is
starting for Tour de Hugo.
5. Adjournment
Clarke made a motion, Moore—Arcand seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:25 pm.
