REVIEW 2019 GOALS AND SET 2020 GOALS
Staff provided a brief review of EDA accomplishments throughout the past year. The annual report will
be presented in full at the beginning of January 2020. Staff started by reviewing the commercial and
industrial permits that were approved in 2019 and continued to review projects that are still in the works
from 2019, but will remain active in 2020.
Juba went through the goals that were set in 2019 and discussed what was done in the past year to achieve
the 2019 goals. Generally the goals are a continuing process and staff asked the EDA to discuss what
they would like to see in 2020.
The EDA had an open discussion on what type of development they would like to see in the City. Among
the discussion, it was mentioned that the EDA should reach out to old and new businesses in Hugo and
understand their business intentions and offer any resources that may be available. The EDA would like
to continue working with the Hugo Business Association and encourage expanding economic
development throughout the City. The EDA also discussed the retail and commercial corridor along
County Road 8 and the possibility of adding mixed uses along the corridor. The EDA encouraged staff
to continue to work on the 165th Street Development Study.
The EDA asked staff to come back with an updated set of goals for 2020 to be reviewed and approved
at the next meeting.
