RESOLUTION 2015-15
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE INTERSTATE 35-e
AND TRUNK HIGHWAY 97 BRIDGE
WHEREAS, the Interstate 35 ("I-35") and Trunk Highway 97 ("TH 97") interchange (the
"Interchange") in the City of Columbus provides important access to all communities in the
region; and
WHEREAS, the I-35 W/E Coalition was formed to include a number of entities including
Washington County, Anoka County and the cities of Hugo, Lino Lakes, Centerville, Forest Lake
and Columbus for the purpose of addressing regional transportation needs along the I-35 W/E
corridor; and
WHEREAS, Metropolitan Council projections shows this area along the I-35 Corridor will
experience significant population growth in the coming decades; and
WHEREAS, access to I -35E is very limited with the nearest interchange to the south being
approximately seven miles to the south at CSAR 14; and
WHEREAS, bridge expansion is necessary to accommodate anticipated traffic volumes until
future interchanges can be constructed; and
WHEREAS, the City of Hugo is committed to continued cooperation with all regional partners
and the I-35 W/E coalition toward improvements to the regional transportation infrastructure.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council of the City of Hugo does hereby
support the design and construction of a replacement bridge at the intersection of I-35 and TH 97
providing four lanes when construction is completed.
