Mr. Paulson read the public hearing notice which was published in the White Bear Press November 1, 1973. Mr. Perron representing the White Bear Rod and .Gun Club gave a brief outline of their proposal and stated: that they were there requesting a Special Use Permit to. construct a club house on their property. The hearing was opened to the public for questions and opinions. Anyone can belong unless the club finds them unsuitable. How many members are active members? Approximately 98%. How often do they. shoot? Approximately once a week. How much does it cost to join? Initial- fee $15.00 - $10.00 per year. How are you classified - Incorporated but as a non- profit organization. How much taxes do you pay?. Pay real e a tate taxes and . income taxes if ailything is left over. They have no • breaks on taxes. Do you serve liquor?- No - They. are not sanctioned to serve liquor but they rent the club.. house for parties and people do bring in liquor. . Mr. Chapman stated that the people in his area are so strongly against having another gun club that they will fight it in court. Response - Cannot compare the two clubs because ours is a target shooting club and is not as noisy. Shooting will be done to the north trees will be planted for buffering in the south. Mr. Rosenquist asked if they would be against banking g instead of tree buffering. They do not intend to de- face the land and wanted tree buffering instead. Howard S chi e t ty - 6726 Eggl ak a Road Mr. Schletty owns the property just west of the proposed site and objected very strongly to the gun club. Stated that trees grow very slowly in this area and that it would take many years before trees would get to a height which would buffer the noise. Kr. Sohietty wanted to know if they intended •n putting up a fence to prevent people from wonderingd p n ering onto his property. He stated that 'he would have a very difficult time *selling his property. with a gun club next door. Mr. Perron explained the location of the property and where the traps would be located and where the club house would be located. He stated that the location for the club house could be changed. They intend on putting in 14 trap houses. Steve Tansing - 14020 Hyde Avenue North Mr. Tansing stated that when the public was asked a few years ago what they wanted for the area they wanted to maintain the rural atmosphere and he feels the gun club does not provide this. Mr. Tansing wanted to know how many people of the Hugo area are members of the club. They did not know. Robert Waller - 14310 Homestead Drive Mr. Waller feels that he will get most of. the noise because the lake will be like a sounding board. Objected to destroying all the tamracks which will have to be removed for traps. Wanted to know what their stand was on recovery pits. They had no stand on recovery pits and did not intend on using them. He said the lead shots and clay pigions contaminate the ground and water and will cause animals to become sick. Mr. Waller wanted to know Whgt efforts they have made for fire protections such as fire, roads. Re said that this is a natural area and be would'like to see it kept that way. He doesn' t feel that he should have to put up with the noise. Said Vite Bear Gun Club should stay iii their..ows All American Oity and he doesn't feel any advantage to the Village of Hugo. Mr. Vadnais stated that lead shot will sink at .least one foot into the ground. Mrs. Monitor - 1341 Homestead Wanted to know if this was going to oases cmase ,theArea to become a oomseroial area. They stated that .boy did not know what . effect it was going to have on the growth of. e area. • Marcel Miron - 15335 Homestead Avenue North Stated he owns 280 acres in this area and was opposed to the gun club. Other questions and objections - Are you going to rent out the club Nous like you do in White Bear - Haven't decided. How often do you rent it out now. From: early spring until late fall. They. wanted the lake kept as a scenic wild life area Is it only members of the .club that will be able to use the facilities or will members from other clubs be able to shoot? Members only.
