HomeMy WebLinkAbout1974.09.16 ORD 1974-116ti ORDINANCE NO.�� AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE DATE OF THE REGULAR CITY ELECTION, EXTENDING THE TERM OF MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEMBERS FOR ONE YEAR WHERE NECESSARY, AND PROVIDING FOR THE YEAR WHEN CERTAIN COUNCIL MEMBERS ARE TO BE ELECTED. . The. City Council of the City of Hugo, Minnesota, hereby ordains: Section 1, DATE OF ELECTION. The regular City election shall be held biennially on the firsF Tuesday after the first Monday in November in every even -numbered year beginning with the 1974 election. Section 2, EXTENSION OF TERMS OF COUNCIL MEMBERS. The terms of the Mayor and the Council Members whose current terms will expire on the first business day of January, 1976, are extended to the first business day of January, 1977 and those offices shall be filled at the 1976 City election. Section 3. TERM AND TRANSITION OFFICE OF MAYOR. The term of office of Mayor shall e two years commencing in 1976, and the Mayor shall be elected at each Regular City election commencing •- in 1976. Section 4, TERM AND TRANSITION, OFFICE OF COUNCIL MEMBERS. The term of office for each council member shall be four years commencing in 1978. Two council members shall be elected for four-year terms at each biennial election commencing in 1978. One council member shall be elected for a four-year term at the 1974 City election. Of the three council members to be elected at the 1976 election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes shall serve for terms of four years and the one receiving the third highest number of votes shall serve for a term of two years.
