Home My WebLink About1987.06.15 ORD 1987-244r 5 ORDINANCE 1987-244 AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING IDENTIFICATION NUMBERING ON BUILDINGS AND RESIDENCES, PROVIDING FOR COMPLIANCE AND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES The City Council of the City of Hugo, Minnesota, does ordain: Subd. 1 . All residences and businesses in the City of Hugo must have the approved address displayed in a manner making them clearly visible for a public roadway. 1 . Numbers shall be no less than 6" high. 2. Numbers shall be of contrasting color to the building, if affixed thereon. 3. Numbers shall be placed in such a way to be clearly visible from a distance of 100' from a public roadway. Subd. 2. In situations where buildings are located more than 100' from a public roadway or situated so that house numbering cannot be clearly visible from the roadway, one of the following procedures for address numbering must be followed: A. Addresses may be posted on all mailboxes in the following manner: 1 . Numbers should be posted on both sides of the mailbox. 2. Numbers shall be reflective and no less than 4" high. B. When it cannot be determined where an address is, because mailboxes are grouped, there is more than one driveway attached to the main driveway, driveways are close together, and/or house addresses cannot be clearly seen from the street or main driveway from a distance of 100' , then addresses shall also be marked in the following manner: 1 . Addresses shall be affixed to a steel post or 4 x 4 wooden post no less than 5' above ground level. 2. Numbering post shall be located at the end of the driveway no more than 30' off the street. 3. Numbering post shall be located within 5' of either side of the driveway. 4. Numbering post shall be marked with no less than 4" reflective numbers. 5. The post shall be numbered on both sides so as to be clearly visible from either direction of travel. Subd. 3. For new construction, no certificate of occupancy shall be issued until this ordinance has been complied with and all existing buildings shall be in compliance with this ordinance by January 1 , 1988. Subd. 4. Any person violating the provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof, shall be punished as per Minnesota Statute.
