AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 110, ENTITLED "FIRE PREVENTION &
PROTECTION" , OF THE HUGO CITY CODE, TO PROVIDE FOR APPOINTMENT
OF THE FIRE CHIEF AND ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEFS BY THE CITY COUNCIL
AND TO PROVIDE FOR HIRING OF FIREMEN BY THE CITY COUNCIL
The City Council of the City of Hugo, Washington County,
Minnesota hereby ordains:
1. Chapter 110, entitled "FIRE PREVENTION & PROTECTION" , of
the Hugo City Code, is amended as follows :
A. In Section 110-1, entitled "FIRE DEPARTMENT ESTABLISHED"-
(1) Delete the second, third, and fourth sentences
in their entirety; and
(2) Add a new second paragraph -
"A fire chief and two assistant fire chiefs shall
be appointed annually by action of the City Council ,
and each shall serve at the discretion of the City
Council until a successor is duly appointed. " and
(3) Add a new third paragraph -
"All firemen shall be hired by the City Council,
as part-time on-call employees of the City, and
shall be subject to requirements established from
time-to-time by the City Council, pertaining to
physical condition, training, duties, and such
other matters as may be required for the lawful
and safe operation of the Fire Department. "
B. In Section 110-7 , entitled "MEMBER REQUIREMENTS" -
(1) Delete the second sentence in its entirety; and
(2) Add a new second paragraph -
"Firemen shall at all times satisfy and meet the
requirements established by the City Council, and
as may be modified from time-to-time , and shall
obey the directives of the fire chief pertaining
to performance of duties as firemen. Failure of
any fireman to meet the requirements or obey
directives shall constitute a basis for removal
from the Fire Department by the City Council. "
2 . This Ordinance shall immediately become effective upon its
adoption and publication as required by law.
3 . Upon becoming effective, the Hugo City Code shall be modified

to incorporate the amendments made by this Ordinance to Chapter 110.
