AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 20 OF THE HUGO CITY CODE
ENTITLED "ADMINISTRATION SALARIES" TO PROVIDE FOR COM-
PENSATION TO THE MAYOR AND MEMBEFS OF THE COUNCIL WHO
MUST APPEAR AT OR PREPARE FOR A TFGAL PROCEEDING IN-
VOLVING THE CITY OF HUGO.
The Hugo City Council hereby ordains:
Under Article 2, 20-9, add Subd. C. MAYOR & COUNCIL MEMBERS.
The Mayor and Council members shall be compensated $75.00 for each and
every day they shall appear in any court of law under subpoena or request
by an attorney for the City of Hugo or request of any judge of any legal
court of the State of Minnesota or the United States. They shall also
be compensated at the same rate when requested to meet with an attorney
authorized by the Hugo City Council to represent the city. They shall
also be compensated at the same rate when appearing for
any deposition after legal notice has been served on them. The Mayor
shall keep an accurate record of all time spent by him/her preparing
the city for any legal proceeding, and may submit a claim to the Council
for approval. All hours spent preparing for a legal proceeding by
the Mayor shall be paid at the same hourly rate currently in effect for
the City Clerk/Treasurer. The Mayor shall not claim the $75.00 fee and
an hourly rate both on the same day, but shall be entitled to the highest
of either when calculated on an hourly basis using the rate currently
in effect for the City Clerk/Treasurer. The provisions of this ordinance
shall be effective January 1 , 1985.
EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance shall become effective from and after
its adoption and publication.
