HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007.04.16 EDA MinutesMINUTES FOR THE EDA MEETING OF APRIL 16, 2007 EDA President Fran Miron called the meeting to order at 8:30 am. PRESENT: Jan Arcand, Jim Bever, Tom Denaway, Mike Granger, Phil Klein, and Brian Thistle, Fran Miron City Administrator Mike Ericson, CD Director Bryan Bear, Associate Planner Rachel Simone ABSENT: None APPROVAL OF MINUTES EDA MEETING OF MARCH 19, 2006 Klein made motion, Thistle seconded, to approve the minutes for the EDA meeting of March 19, 2006. All aye. Motion carried. BLUE HERON GRILL There are two building pads in front of Festival Foods that are planned to be occupied by a bank and a restaurant. Currently United Properties is working with Chad Wagner on a site plan for the Blue Heron Grill. Staff invited Mr. Wagner to come to the EDA meeting to talk about his restaurant and give details about his business plan. Mr. Wagner gave an overview of his business plan for the restaurant and showed the EDA what the inside will look like. The EDA welcomed Chad Wagner and the Blue Heron Grill as a new business in the community. UPDATE ON TIF DISTRICT AND DOWNTOWN MASTER PLAN At its Monday, April 2, 2007 meeting the City Council approved the adoption of the Downtown Master Plan. At the same meeting there was a Public Hearing on the TIF District, which was tabled to Monday, April 16, 2007. Staff updated the EDA on the outcome of the meeting. DISCUSSION ON APPRAISAL FOR PROPERTY LOCATED AT 5389 145TH STREET NORTH The City has been contacted by Murry Millman's conservator that his home located at 5389 145th Street North is for sale. The City purchased the house next door, the Schoeller property at 5399 145th Street, back in August for the future extension of Finale. The house will soon be placed on the market for $198, 000. As properties in the downtown area become available the City has been letting the EDA know about them. Phil Klein stated that he would not vote to purchase the property. Bever stated that is may be premature to start purchasing properties on 145th Street. MARKETING STRATEGY For the past couple years the EDA has been working towards a Marketing Strategy for the City. It is also a goal of the EDA for 2007. Staff presented what Hugo is doing for a marketing tool and what other Cities are doing to promote themselves. Attached were ideas that the EDA had in 2005 for a Marketing Program for the City. Staff recommended that the EDA discuss what kind of marketing they would like for the City and give direction to Staff. Arcand stated that having the EDA have its own section on the City website is a good idea. Granger stated that the attached spreadsheet was good and provides information on what the EDA has thought of in the past. Bever stated that we should be taking before and after pictures of what is going on in Hugo. Miron stated that for the EDA marketing strategy staff should concentrate on the website and keeping it up to date. We could possibly look for funding and work with the HBA. Arcand suggested that we work with the school district on finding a student to help the EDA portions of the website. Denaway suggested using Gov Delivery on the Gov Office website manager. Bever stated that the entry signs to the City are important. Staff was directed to draft a spread sheet for the EDA Marketing Strategy. UPDATE ON 2008 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN PUBLIC WORKSHOP There is a Public Workshop for the 2008 Comprehensive Plan on Thursday, April 26, 2007. Staff presented at the meeting the agenda for the workshop. Commission members were invited and encouraged to participate. Granger stated that we need a catch line on every Comp Plan newsletter and distribute them out. INVITE TO HUGO KIDZ & BIZ FEST APRIL 22, 2007 All EDA members are invited to Hugo Kidz & Biz Fest on Sunday, April 22, 2007 at Oneka Elementary School. Attached were the agenda for the events. The City Administrator invited everyone to the Hugo Kidz n' Biz Fest. ADJOURNMENT Granger made motion, Denaway seconded to adjourn the meeting at 10:30 am All aye. Motion carried.
