HUGO The City of Hugo offers many community events which are widely enjoyed by community members. Among them, my favorite community event of the summer was National Night Out because it reminds me that Hugo is a community of "good neighbors" living within strong neighbor- hoods. National Night Out is a community -building campaign that promotes camaraderie between public safety officials and residents to make our neighborhoods a safer, better place to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between all those who make up our great City, including residents, the Washington County Sheriff's Department, the Hugo Fire Department, and our City's elected officials. On August 4th, I started out my night atr.� Lion's Park, which hosted "Community Night Out." It was a wonderful sight to see residents come enjoy the food and events provided by the Hugo Business Association and donate to the Hugo Food Shelf. Throughout the night, the IOlICY LOYYQYflY PA BTiPB86il8 City Council members and I visited many neighborhoods around the City. There were nine official neighborhood gatherings, but as I drove around the City, I could see the event was celebrated by many more. Events like National Night Out are a fantastic way to get people out into their community to interact with their neighbors. A united neighborhood strengthens the fabric of community and provides for a much safer and prosperous City. I want to thank all of the residents who supported this event through participation; it is one of the many reasons that the City of Hugo is a community to be proud of. A Word From Public Works Winter Parking Ordinance Beginning November 1 and extending through March 31, parking is prohibited on all City streets from 2:00 am to 7:00 am. Also, if we receive two inches or more of snow any other time during the year, parking is prohibited at those times. This is to allow the Public Works Department to clear the snow from the roadways in a safe and efficient manner. Snow Removal The City of Hugo would like to remind everyone that it is against the law to deposit snow on or next to a public street. Minnesota State Statute 160.27 prohibits plowing, shoveling, blowing or otherwise placing snow onto any public road right- of-way, and doing so is punishable by a misdemeanor. Snow that is moved to the public right-of-way can create hazardous situations, including slip- pery areas, frozen ridges, bumps, sight obstructions and drainage problems. Property owners are liable should an accident occur as a result of improper snow placement. Also, residents should check their mailbox to ensure they are sturdy and in good condition. Mail- boxes that are damaged by snow, and not actual plow contact, will not be repaired by the City of Hugo. Fall Clean -Up Day Fall clean-up day will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Hugo Public Works. V This event will only be for the City of Hugo residents and a photo ID will be required to verify residency in Hugo. Hazardous materials and electronics will be accepted free -of -charge from house- holds only (no businesses). This event offers a great opportunity to do a last minute clean-up of your property before winter hits! Questions? Call Hugo City Hall at 651-762-6300. Compost Site The compost site is located on the south side of 170th St. N. approximately 12 mile west of T.H. 61. The site is open for Hugo residents on Wednesdays from 4:00pm to 8:00pm (or dusk) and Saturdays from 10:00am to 5:00pm. This is a deposit site for grass clippings, leaves, and soft organic matter only. No brush, twigs, branches or woody materials accepted. L. Hugo Firefighters are leaders in our community through education, prevention, and professionalism. Their training is frequent and rigorous, and their work is demanding, but the rewards for their dedication is abundant. If you want to learn new skills, build your training and education, take on new challenges, and work in a team YOU should be involved in our community as a Hugo Firefighter. Hugo Fire Department Fun Run Support the Hugo Fire Department and run along with real firefighters by participating in the Fearless Firefighter Fun Runs on Saturday, October 3, 2015. Rain or shine, come join the fun! Both the 5K and the Children's Trick -or -Treating Half -Mile Run begin and end at the Hugo Fire Department. Candy stops will be along the children's route, so kids, wear your favorite costume! Proceeds support the Hugo Fire Department. Housing Update Prairie Village 4th Addition OP3 Prairie Village, LLC, has received approval of the last phase of a residential project called Prairie Village. This phase of the development will consist of 38 single family lots. Fable Hill 4th Addition Elmcrest Investments, LLC, has also received approval of the last phase of its residential project called Fable Hill. This phase of the development will include a mix of single family homes and detached villa units for a total of 60 lots. Clearwater Cove D.R. Horton has recently received approval of a residential project called Clearwater Cove. This development will consist of 89 single family lots. The first phase of 28 lots is projected to start this year. Waters Edge 5th Addition OP3 Prairie Village, LLC, has received approval of the last phase of a residential project called Waters Edge. This phase of the development will consist of 13 single family lots. Lots Available Hugo remains a prime place to live in Minnesota. Our residential statistics reflect this. This community bike ride is fun for all ages and biking abilities. The ride will start at Lions Park near Hugo City Hall at 14669 Fitzgerald Avenue North. The majority of the route is on paved trails. There will be a water stop and activities at Oneka Elementary School. Starts at 10:00 am Town & Country 20 miles Tour the city and countryside of Hugo! This ride has optiona water stops and is supported. Starts at 9:15 am Free T -Shirt and Lunch All riders receive a T-shirt. They have recently received approval for an 8,100 square foot building to be constructed in two phases on the commercial lot west of Kwik Trip. Ross Hedlund from Frauenshuh Commercial Real Estate, representing Park Dental, described that Park Dental has had a lot of success within the City of Hugo. He stated that the increased demand from residents of Hugo and surrounding areas has led to the planning and construction of a new building, which will be better utilized in serving the needs of the community. The City Council welcomes the new building and is excited by the growth of the business. f " i Hugo Equipment Company has been a staple in the Company located at 13997 Forest Boulevard. The building community for several years, selling yard equipment and providing equipment servicing needs. Since moving to the new location in 2012, the business has grown and additional storage space is needed. The City Council approved the expansion plans for Hugo Equipment addition will be 3,000 square feet on the northeast side of the building, bringing the total square footage of the building to 11,000 square feet. The City Council congratulates Hugo Equipment Company on its growth in the community. Washington County It-Huea IMPROVEMENTS UPDATE Rice Lake Meadows: As part of the City's C.I.F. for streets, the City removed pavement and spot repaired concrete curb and gutter in the Rice Lake Meadows Development. This project started the week of July 7th with minor improvements to the utility infrastructure followed by pavement removal and replacement. A sidewalk was installed along 145th St. and Geneva Ave., which will ultimately connect to TH 61. This project is anticipated to be completed by the first week in September. ROAD CLOSED mis DETOUR % Finale Avenue: As part of the Senior Living project the City reconstructed Finale Ave. from 145th St. to 146th St. This project is scheduled to be completed by the first week in September. County Road 7 and 8 Intersection Alignment: The City is working cooperatively with Washington County on this project, which is scheduled to start August 24th. This section of roadway will be completely closed to through traffic for the duration of construction. A detour will be posted to help traffic around the construction area. This project is scheduled for completion by mid- September. Their grand- daughter, Rachael Anderson, nominated the two describing them as great role models who are dedicated to the community. Donna and John are well known throughout the City and have been avid volunteers throughout the 52 years they have lived in Hugo.
