Sunset Lake — Dave Snyder reviewed the deeds and it appears that the City could sell the properties or
do whatever they would like to with them. The City Council has approved closing the entrance and Chris
Petree will put up a concrete barrier and a sign. The Parks Commission needs to study this problem and
recommend solutions to the City Council.
Il. The City Council authorized the preparation of the City maps. These maps should be available by late
August.
III. The Water Tower Site at 130th and Fenway Boulevard was reviewed. The parking lot arrangement was
revised and the small lot will be located at the end of the entry drive. The contractor for Townhomes of
Bald Eagle Lake is going to be parking his trailer on the site for the duration of the project. The
agreement with the City is that the contractor would leave class 5 in the drive going out to 130th. Parks
does not want access to 130th and the loop through is not needed by Public Works. Laurie will contact
the contractor and coordinate the placement of gravel and discuss the grading that is required on the site.
IV. Beaver Ponds — we are now waiting for a quote to seed and fine grade the park from the irrigation
contractor. It has been very difficult to get some one to work on this job. Laurie still needs to get
property maps for the Hauble property and plan the park expansion.
V. The topography and wetland maps for the Mallinger piece were reviewed. This property has very little
high ground and a DNR controlled wetland in the middle of it. We will not be pursuing this property for
parkland at this time.

VI. The DNR Wildland-Urban Interface Project and the Minnesota Land Cover Classification System,
MLCCS, was discussed. Identification of the land cover in Hugo will provide a valuable planning tool
for Hugo and the Parks Commission sees a great deal of value in completing this project. The project is
under funded at this time and the Parks Commission recommends that the City Council commit $12,000
of the park fund to this project. The City Council will need to commit an additional $9,560 for a total of
$21,560 to see the project completed.
VII. The Commission needs to start looking as grant possibilities and potential projects. Possible projects are:
purchase the Bernin property, build a trail head, in partnership with the DNR, at the old school house,
future trails along C.R. 8, Rice Lake Park....... Think about it for the next meeting.
VIII. The Goodview Avenue property came up again. Parks cannot use this land and we need to find out if any
of the neighbors would like to buy it. The possibility of having a workshop with the neighborhood to
brainstorm possible uses was discussed. We also need to study the surrounding properties and look for
neighborhood park sites in Neighborhood Park District #6
