Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting
May 14, 2008
7:00 P.M.
Call to Order
Roger Clark Called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
Present: Roger Clarke, Rachel Berger, Dan Gabrielli, Melissa Parker, Pete Pedersen, Noel Schmidt,
Jim Taylor, Russell Schmidt, Dave Strub
Staff Present: Chris Petree - Public Works Director, Debi Close - Secretary
I. Approval of Minutes of April 9, 2008
Strub made a motion, Russell Schmidt seconded to approve the minutes of the April 09, 2008
Parks Commission meeting.
All Aye. Motion Carried.
II. Oak Shore Park Neighborhood Meeting
Bill Back from EFA gave a presentation of the types of play equipment, use, colors and
materials. Residents determined the best color selections were earth tones. The equipment
selected on the proposed plan, matched with what the residents and the commission members
had desired. Suggestion of a teeter totter was made to replace the spring toy in the play area.
Pedersen made a motion, Gabrielli seconded to elect color choice as green, tan and brown for
the play equipment at Oak Shore Park.
All Aye. Motion Carried.
Taylor made a motion, Berger seconded to approve the selection of the equipment and to
change spring toy to a teeter totter.
All Aye. Motion carried.
Color selection for the shelter by the residents was unanimous on a green roof with brown
posts.

Berger made a motion, Parker seconded to elect color choice on the park shelter as a green
roof with brown posts.
All Aye. Motion carried.
Laurie McRostie presented the landscape plan. She informed of planting locations, shade that
will be provided, screening, visibility, drainage and the types of trees/shrubs. Petree asked for
City and commission to work with residents on screening, All Commission members agreed.
Berger made a motion, Russell Schmidt seconded to accept the landscape design as
proposed.
All Aye. Motion carried.
III. Select Date for Parks Commission Tour
Berger made a motion, Pedersen seconded to hold parks commission tour on September 10,
2008.
All Aye. Motion carried.
IV. Bruce Bernin Nature Conference
At the last meeting it was requested to get copies of the literature and handouts that were
available at the nature conference that Bernin had attended. Copies were provided to the
commission members. Additional reading material is available by contacting Chris Petree, the
Public Works Director.
V. 5920 Eqq Lake Road Property
John & Mary Baird are requesting to split their property and sell the land to the City for access
to Egg Lake for a future park and/or trails. Following a discussion, the parks commission feels
that Rice Lake Park and the City owned property on the west side of Egg Lake will offer the
same amenities.
Pedersen made a motion, Taylor seconded to recommend that the City not purchase the Baird
Property.
All Aye. Motion carried.

Russell Schmidt made a motion, Berger seconded to adjourn the meeting at 9:35 p.m.
