Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting
May 14th, 2009
7:00 P.M.
Call to Order
Roger Clarke Called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Present: Roger Clarke, Derek Larsen, Noel Schmidt, Russell Schmidt, Dave Strub, Jim
Taylor.
Absent: Rachel Berger, Dan Gabrielli, Melissa Parker
Staff Present: Steve Duff, Sr. Engineer Technician
Debi Close, Parks Secretary
I. Approval of Minutes of April 8, 2009
Larsen made a motion, Taylor seconded to approve the minutes of the April 8, 2009
Parks Commission meeting.
All Aye. Motion Carried.
II. Update on Hunting Sub -Committee
Clarke updated the Commission on the meeting that was held last week.
Topics included:
1. Shooting — State Law and discharge distance on private property.
2. Archery — Active/Inactive parks.
3. Hunting Restriction - Small parks and establishing parks within parks.
4. Bald Eagle — State Law hunting over water and residential growth.
III. Update on Memorials at City Parks Policy
Steve Duff, Sr. Engineering Technician, informed the Commission that the City Park
Memorial Policy was approved at the City Council Meeting on May 4, 2009.
IV. Update on Rice Lake Athletic Fields Building
Taylor updated the Commission on the last Sub Committee Meeting, discussions
were focused on small changes to the site plan and research on funding. Continuing
focus of education opportunities and LEED certified construction.
V. Update on Hanson Property
Clark discussed Real Estate Market changes to the Hanson Property. A meeting
has been set to go over valuation and terms.
VI. Update on Parks Intern
Taylor updated the Commission of new intern Shayla Syverson, who started on
Monday. She is the Economic Development and Park/Recreation Sub Committee
Program Intern.
Adjournment
Taylor made a motion, Strub seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:35 p.m.
