Parks Commission, City of Hugo
January 11, 2012

Call to Order
Present: Kris Birch, Roger Clarke, Mat Rauschendorfer, Dave Strub, Jim Taylor,
Tom Windisch
Absent: Rachel Berger, Tom Windisch
New Commissioners Present: Joan Benner, Chris Boland
Staff Present: Scott Anderson, Public Works Director
Shayla Syverson, Parks Planner
Debi Close, Parks Secretary
Jim Taylor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
I. Approval of Minutes from December Meeting
Clarke made a motion, Strub seconded to approve the minutes of the December 14,
2011 Parks Commission meeting.
All aye. Motion carried.
II. Introduction of New Commissioners — Oath of Office
Newly appointed Commissioners, Joan Benner and Chris Boland introduced
themselves. Each were sworn in with the Oath of Office.
III. Update on City Identity Workshop
Parks Planner, Shayla Syverson informed of the City Identity Workshop that was held on
December 15, 2011. This item was tabled until the next meeting to allow Commissioner
Windisch to report.
IV. Update on Recreation Program
Parks Planner, Shayla Syverson updated on movie night at Oneka Elementary school
being another successful event (approximately 300 turned out). Next movie night will be
held on February 2, 2012. Snow Jam is coming up on January 21 st, 2012 held at the
Oneka Elementary School Gym with a DJ, bouncy castle, giant slide, other inflatables,
prizes, snacks and fun for all. The annual Oak Shore Park Sledding Party is scheduled
for February 11, 2012 with high hopes of snowfall before the event.
V. Presentation of the 2011 Annual Report
Birch made a motion, Clarke second to approve the 2011 Parks Commission Annual
Report.
All Aye. Motion Carried.
VI. Other
Clarke discussed the Hanifl Concession Stand. Yellow ribbon Network and Blue Star
Mothers have shown interest in volunteering at the concession stand as a fundraiser.
This topic will be addressed at a meeting scheduled to discuss summer 2012 operations
of the concession stand with the Lions Club.
Taylor updated that he has heard good comments from residents regarding the trail
plowing this winter.
VII. Adjournment
Strub made a motion, Birch seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:35 pm.
