HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013.04.11 Parks MinutesMinutes Parks Commission, City of Hugo April 11, 2013 Council Chambers, City Hall Call to Order Present: Joan Benner, Rachel Berger, Nicole Schmid, Jim Taylor, Tom Windisch Absent: Kris Birch, Chris Boland, Mat Rauschendorfer, Dave Strub Staff Present: Shayla Syverson, Parks Planner Debi Close, Parks Secretary Taylor called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. I. Ar)oroval of Minutes from March Meetina Berger made a motion, Benner seconded to approve the minutes of the March 13, 2012 Parks Commission meeting. All Aye. Motion Carried. II. Hardwood Creek Trail Master Plan Presentation Peter Mott, Washington County Parks Manager presented a draft of the Hardwood Creek Trail Master Plan. The concept includes the existing trail and proposed trail extensions following the railroad corridor along Highway 61 from the southern border of Hugo and Washington County to the northern border of Forest Lake and Washington County for a total of 12 miles. An update was also given on current trail projects. These include re -surfacing of existing trail in the late summer of 2013 and extension of the trail between 145th and 140`' Streets. The grade of the planned trail extension was discussed. Concerns were expressed over the safety of the steep side slopes of some portions of the existing railroad bed. The accessibility of the trail at intersections was also discussed. Discussions on the Master Plan included road crossings, the planned roundabout at Hwy 61 and 170th, providing for the safety of the variety of trail users (pedestrians, bikers, equestrians, snowmobilers, etc), landscape enhancements, amenities, and signage. Taylor made a motion, Berger seconded to support Washington County's Hardwood Creek Trail Master Plan. All Aye. Motion Carried. VII. Recreation Program Update Shayla Syverson, Parks Planner reviewed the upcoming programs and events. Kidz' n Biz Fest National Kids to the Parks Day Teen Movie Matinee Park Play Days Great American Campout Nature Camp Summer Sports Camps April 20, 2013 May 18, 2013 June 14, 2013 June 18, 2013 June 22, 2013 August 5-8, 2013 August 12-16, 2013 An invitation was extended if any Commission members were interested in attending the Athletic Study Results held in White Bear Lake District office on April 24, 2013. IV. Adiournment Windisch made a motion, Berger seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:28 pm.
