HUGO BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS AND APPEALS
July 10, 2003
Chairperson Schumann called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
PRESENT: Brunotte, Puleo, Schumann
ABSENT: None
ALSO PRESENT: John Rask, Community Development Director
Michele Lindau, Secretary
Minutes June 12, 2003
Puleo made motion, Brunotte seconded, to approve the minutes of June 12, 2003
as submitted.
All Ayes. Motion carried.
Clark Variance for Oversized Garage
The Board considered the request of David and Sandra Clark, 6922 125th Street
North, for a variance to exceed the maximum size of permitted garage space.
The Community Development Director explained that the applicant was
constructing a new home on the property and wanted to construct a 1,408 square
foot garage, where the ordinance limits the size to 1,000 square feet. The garage
would be two stories with 704 square feet on each level. The garage would be
attached to the west side of the home and the driveway would wrap around to the
side of the home to provide access to the upper level. The lower level of the
garage would be accessed from the rear (north) side of the home and would be
used primarily for storage and workspace.
Staff found that the proposed garage would appear as a standard three car garage
because the lower level would not be visible from the road. As such, the garage
would not dominate the appearance of the home and would not be out of character
with surrounding homes in the neighborhood.
Puleo made motion, Brunotte seconded, to recommend approval of the variance for
David and Sandra Clark.
